First, “Jugo” is Spanish for juice. Yes, that means we call ourselves “Juice Juice” – which sounds a little silly, except when you think of it like the old line: “New York, New York: So good they named it twice.”  Same goes for Jugo Juice – or something like that.

Second, we pronounce it JOO-go.  Spanish speakers say HEW–go.  They, of course, are right. We just like aural alliteration (see!).

Like a lot of great ideas, ours was hatched over coffee.
In Kelowna, BC, in  the summer of 1995, our founders, Derek Brock and Jason Cunningham, were working as managers with a company that was really starting to take off (Starbucks--you may have heard of it).  Jason and Derek were impressed with the way people responded to a premium take on a tried and true product. If it worked for beans, why not fruit?

A coffee break without coffee? Lunch without eating? Just a couple of the revolutionary ideas behind the Jugo philosophy. We are a society on the go, and we want food and drink choices to go with our lifestyles – but too often the “on–the-go” choices we are offered aren’t good ones. Fatty foods, high-sugar caffeine-heavy drinks…  We thought people would prefer a healthy and delicious alternative. For the price and time it takes to have a fancy coffee drink, people can have a healthy “meal in a cup.” How great is that?

Soon the rest of the world will feel as good as we do.
We opened our first Jugo Juice location in December 1998 in Calgary’s Eau Claire Market.  Since franchising our business in 2002, Jugo Juice has grown across North America. The year 2007 will see Jugo Juice expand into many new cities , establishing ourselves as the most respected smoothie provider in every market we enter. Jugo Juice is leading the way in the world of fast food thanks to our simple belief that natural unprocessed foods are the future of healthy living.
