Car Trouble

The holidays can be a very exciting time,
but they can also be very stressful.

One of the challenges that you may face is a long car ride with the family. Not sure how to keep the little kids happy on the way to Grandma’s house? We have asked parents for their tried-and-tested tricks for a quiet ride – check them out below!

If possible (perhaps if you are leaving after work), delay nap time so kids sleep on the road.

Make sure to have favorite blankets handy to encourage napping.

Plan scheduled stops at points of interest on longer trips to break up the time in
the car.

Invest in over-the-seat car organizers to control clutter – it contributes to a more relaxed feeling. Also, try not to overpack so that all the luggage fits into the trunk.

When it comes to snacks, include some treats. It makes the trip special for the kids. As for drinks, make sure the bottles are spill proof, and limit fluid intake to avoid too many bathroom stops!

Always have some cleaning supplies handy in case of a spill. You don’t need much – wet wipes, paper towel, and a bag for garbage.

For entertainment, try easy travel games such as the Aqua Doodle drawing board. You may even want to buy a new game or book and wrap it up to let the kids open before you leave; the excitement of a new toy will guarantee it gets played with. You could even take your kids to the store to pick out their own new toy, book or movie so they really want to use it!

A great idea - let each child pack their own small backpack with whatever they want to bring on the road.
