Feature Fruit: The Peach
Feature Fruit: The Peach

Peaches are from Chinese origin, dating back to the 10th century B.C.

The peach was named around 300 B.C. by the Greek philosopher Theophrastus who thought it came from Persia and named the fruit after that country.

Peach trees or shrubs can easily be grown out of a peach stone.

There are over 700 varieties of peaches.

Darwin noticed that peach trees spontaneously produced nectarines and vice versa.

Nectarines are just a type of peach without the fuzz.

Peaches and nectarines always have to be picked ripe - they do not ripen well after they have been picked.

Often jam is made from peaches because they can’t be stored for fresh for long periods of time.
